STEFAN VOGLSINGER – TRANSCEIVER
MAM07 (2024)
Transceiver is a quadraphonic composition, an instrument and an artwork.
The album encourages gathering, experimentation and collective listening. It reflects the evolution of communication over distance and highlights invisible glitches in miscommunication. Using a mobile recording rig, diverse reverberation spaces were explored, replayed and mixed with on-site improvisations in various places and non-places in Vienna and the surrounding area.
Transceiver Quadraphony
The four-channel composition becomes audible when the needles of two opposing turntables are simultaneously placed on the records and played through two pairs of speakers in the space. Each record can be played separately in stereo, but their spatial potential is fully realized in quadraphonic sound.
Transceiver Instrument
You are invited to experiment with the records and listen together, for example by combining different speeds, lifting and repositioning the needles, playing backwards and using diverse playback devices.
Transceiver Artwork
Each cover is hand-printed, cut and bound individually using various printing and transfer techniques. The gate-fold cover graphic shows the resonator drum and outlines of transparent monochromatic circuit boards.Morse codes describe the titles of each side in the telegraph alphabet and can be used for synchronization.

Reviews:
“This isn’t just music; it’s a séance for sound.”
“Transceiver” is not for everyone, but for those willing to embrace its strange and sprawling beauty, it offers endless rewards. It’s both a challenge and an invitation: to listen more deeply, to play more freely, and to consider the way sound carries history, memory, and meaning.
In short, this is not a record you merely own. It’s a record you “live with”, an instrument you learn to play. And like all great communication, it leaves you wondering: “What will I transmit? What will I receive?” (vito camarretta for chain d.l.k. read whole article here)
“Das ist schon ein ausgefallenes Projekt, das sich Stefan Voglsinger da ausgedacht hat. All die Orte, an denen aufgenommen wurde und wie sie klingen. Siehe dazu den oberen Text. Was ist was? Wäre wieder die Frage, aber das interessiert mich nicht wirklich. Das Ergebnis zählt und das beeindruckt mich sehr. Es klingt unglaublich räumlich (man kann es auch binaural hören) und man sollte es nur mit Kopfhörern hören und sich auf diese unglaubliche Reise begeben. Es ist eine akustische Offenbarung” ( red whole article here)
